  • really useful tips to save money

    ehem
so, i am use to decorating magazines having stupid advice on how to be cheap, ("don't buy a new couch, just spend $400 on throw pillows") but i was really disappointed in consumer reports little list of advice for the recession, some are just not new ideas, hello, and some are just stupid
    here's some favorites
    1. "don't buy liners for your wastebaskets, just reuse plastic grocery bags"
2."be your own landscaper. doing basic lawn care yourself is good for you- and your wallet" (how many people really have landscapers?)
3."borrow books and video as from the library rather than paying at a bookstore or video store" (really? things are free at a library? awesome)
    4. "measure laundry detergent using the manufacturer's enclosed cap or cup. It's easy to add more detergent than you need pouring freehand." (other then my mother, who does that?)
    5. "Buy only machine washable clothes"
    6. "At restaurants, don't order appetizers, desserts, or coffee."
    7. "Buy wine and beer by the case, which is cheaper. Either stock up or split with friends." (This was followed by cut out wine and beer, but i don't think  that one was even funny)
    8. "Bring a bag lunch to work. And bring your own snacks too; those trips to the vending machine can add up."
9."I eat breakfast at home instead of buying it on the road or at work."
    and my personal favorite
    10. "Lather, rinse but skip the repeat. Shampoo will last twice as long."

Ooo, I have a good one. Spend less money.

Lather, don't rinse, don't repeat: it'll last three times as long.

jeeze...this list will save me about 30 cents a month, if I start using  the measuring cup ( #4)

It's a real let down that this was from Consumer reports.  It's like the media all are afraid of facing the elephant in the living room, and have a concerted effort to distract sheeple with inanities.

Did Rupert Murdoch buy Consumer reports?
